Endemic to countries in the middle east, this salvia is adapted to drier conditions during summer. It also handles rocky soils and alkaline conditions with aplomb. A smaller salvia - under 50cm - it is best placed along pathways, at the front of the border or amongst other low growing perennials and grasses. It develops a mound of basal foliage from which arise the many inflorescence beginning in early spring and usually ending with the onset of cold weather. Pruning off spent flowers assists with encouraging rebloom, although not a necessity. Pale lilac to white flowers work well in pastel colour schemes. Full sun to part shade. Happy in drier soils although it will withstand a little water. 0.5mH x 0.4mW
