Strobilanthes gossypinus (Persian shield; Pewter plant)
A terrific plant for those positions that have shade and sun throughout the day as it can cope with both full shade or full sun! Lovely silver foliage that starts off coffee coloured when young. With new growth on it, the colour contrast can be quite stunning. Has a natural rounded shape to it so can be useful as a contrast to more vertical plants like grasses. Looks great in contemporary gardens, cottage gardens and even works well in a pot. Grows around 1.5mH and wide. Can be pruned hard to keep smaller. Will survive on rainfall alone if grown in part shade otherwise water it weekly during hot weather.
