Scabiosa africana (Cape scabiosa)
A tough scabiosa from you guessed it, South Africa. The largest scabiosa I have, it will reach 1.5m tall quickly and spread to at least 1m. It can be pruned back hard after the first flowering flush to manage the size and maintain foliage density. Prolific flowering, with long stems on the flowers making it very useful for floral artistry. Self seeds around but the offsping are easy to pull out or cover with mulch to reduce the spread. After a few years allow some of the seedlings to replace the parent plant. Full sun to part shade, low water once established.
